James Bower, a bachelor from Nippers Harbour, & Mahala Rachel Langdon, a spinster from Jacksons Cove, were married on December 4, 1878 at Jacksons Cove in a Methodist ceremony. Witnesses were ?Thomas E Batstone, Charles W Batstone, Henry Adam Langdon, Julia G. Wells, Jonas Starks.

The 1935 census for Nipper's Harbour says she was 75 years old and a widow.
