Both William Joseph Strong and John Howard Strong remember their parents saying Uncle Ross enlisted before he was 18, the minimum age requirement, when war broke out in 1914. This would seem to confirm his birth date in 1899. The book of baptisms for the area, in the United Church Archives, St. John's gives his birth date as February 18, 1888. All births are listed sequentially in the minister's handwriting and signed by him as each child was christened. But his sister Mahela was born February 27, 1888. He was killed in action, at Flanders Fields, while serving with the First Newfoundland Regiment, World War I.

He is listed in the Book of Rememberence, Page 121. (Size 154K)

He is listed at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission web site (reproduction).

His probate record from the Newfoundland Acts Book, Volume 8, Folio 131, probated in 1923.
