Mary Ann's headstone is at St. Peter's Anglican Church in Twillingate.
The inscription says "Wife to Samuel Strong ... A loving wife a mother dear".
Samuel Strong owned the schooner Willing Trader which was "lost at
sea". The registry was closed in 1852.
In 1935
James Moores Strong
wrote a letter to his cousin
Chester
stating "Do you know anything about Uncle Samuels family.
Father
left Twillingate and came here a few years after your
Father
and Uncle Samuel left for Canada or the States".
According to Thomas Drake Strong's obituary "He, with his parents and
other members of the family, left Newfoundland for the United States in October 1856, and located
in Aurora Jan. 1, 1857".

[Speculation follows]
I don't know when either Samuel or Ann died. The most recent reference to them is in the 1860 Census
and I haven't been able to find either one in the 1870 Census. I think they must have died before 1870
because their children were scattered to other families.
By 1870 the Civil War was over and:
- Thomas was married, had his first two children, and was living in Manchester Township.
- Deborah was living with her daughter in Cincinnati, Ohio.
- Solomon was in Marion Township, Newton County, Missouri living with the William Baynham family.
- I have no idea what happened to Mary. She would have been about 20 years old. Perhaps she was married or had died.
- Martha was living with the John French family in Sparta Township.
- Frederick was living with the George Wheeler family in Manchester Township.
- Isabella was living with William and Elisabeth House in Manchester Township.
William Burge (of Twillingate) mentions in his will a grand daughter
named Mary Anne Drake. Interestingly, Samuel's first wife, mother of Thomas Drake Strong, was
named Mary Ann [maiden name unknown] who died in 1848 and was buried at St. Peter's Anglican
Church Cemetery in Twillingate.
