William Chancey KNIGHT was born in St. John's in 1815 (a,b),
the son of Michael (b. 1776 in
Newfoundland), and Rachel KNIGHT. He was a Master Mariner, first as a crewman and later
as a captain. In June 1859 he commanded the schooner Integrity (b)
. Later voyages were
from 1870 to 1872 in the Ospray (b) and from 1873 to 1875
in the Hector (b).
He died at St. John's in 1900 (b).
William was married (a) to Charlotte PITTS at St. John's
about 7 Jan 1841 (p). Officiating was Reverend PREKOVOUT.
Charlotte (b. 10 Nov 1820) was the daughter of John PITTS (b. 1783 (s),
d. 9 Apr 1825 (s)) and Elizabeth PICCO (b. 1870
(s), d. 15 Oct 1820 (s)).
William's grandfather is thought to be William KNIGHT (b. in Newfoundland), but this has not
been proven. Charlotte PITTS' grandfather was James PITTS (b. 1735 (s)
at Kennford, Devon, England, d. 30 Apr 1805 (s)).

or on November 18, 1851 (l). She married (g,l) Rev. John PRATT on
July 4, 1877. Fanny died on 20 Dec 1926 at St. John's (l).
Her will (q) was signed on December 1, 1921 at St. John's. It mentions
her daughters Florence and Nellie, and her sons Arthur and Calvert. The probate records say
that she was a widow and left an estate valued at $4000.
Rev. John PRATT was born [depending on the source] either in 1839 (a,g)
at Barnard Castle, Durham
County, England (g) or on August 28, 1839 at Gunnerside, Swaledale,
Yorkshire, England (l). He was baptised on 2 Sep 1839 at Barnard
Castle, Durham County, England (l) [this may be how the conflict in
birth place arose]. He "spent his early years at Gunnerside, Yorkshire, where he worked as a
lead-miner". He was posted to Newfoundland in 1873 (g) and ordained in
June 1877 (g).
He was the son of James PRATT (b. 31 Jul 1792 at Muker, Yorkshire, d. 17 Jul 1858 at
Gunnerside,
Yorkshire) and Sarah BELL (b. 1797 at Broken Bank, Fleetham, Grinton, d. 25 Apr 1876), one of
twelve children. His grandparents were Anothony PRATT (b. 24 Jun
1769 at Muker, Gunnerside, d. 7 Mar 1820) and Dorothy CHAPMAN, and John BELL (b. at Broken
Bank, Feetham, Grinton) and Elizabeth PRATT (b. ABT. 1768). John
PRATT died March 15, 1904 at Grand Bank, Newfoundland (g).

However the probate records suggest he died about 1922 (Newfoundland Acts Book,
volume 8, folio 590, probated 1922). He was a builder and contractor. He married a woman
named Sarah (maiden name unknown) (a) (b. Nov 1861). Archibald and
Sarah had six childen (a), including Joan (b. May 1891), Gertrude (b.
Sep 1896), and William C.(a) (b. Dec 1899).
Joan KNIGHT married a man named MILLER. She was a widow in 1921. She
had two daughters, one born in December 1911, the other named Edith was born in February 1919.
Edwin John KNIGHT, was born in 1858 (a) or in April 1849 (according to
the 1921 Census) His wife, Annie
(AYRE) KNIGHT (a) was born in Torquay, England in August 1853.
He was an accountant from St. John's
and died there on April 27 1927 (Newfoundland Acts Book, volume 8, folio 425, probated 1927).
His estate was valued at $6531.95. Edwin and Annie had two daughters (a)

Arthur W. KNIGHT was born in 1862 (a) and died in 1915
(a). He was a Judge (a). He married Mary Jane DICKS (a).

the will of Arthur's sister Sophie, I believe the tree refers to Dorothy, Muriel, and Robert
W. KNIGHT (see details below).

April 2, 1922 (Newfoundland
Acts Book, volume 8, folio 590, probated 1922). He was married to a woman named Jessie (maiden

Kathleen Yvonne RORKE) [Hubert b. Mar 1919 at St. John's(k)]. He was a
Veteran of WWII, Royal Canadian Navy and Honorary Colonel, 30 (Nfld.) Service Battalion. Yvonne
died in 1998. They had two children, daughter Kathy LeGrow (Curtis) and son James Rorke Pratt
(d. 11 Jan 2001 at age 51). Ewert and Yvonne also had three grandchildren, Chris, Robyn and
Tim LeGrow.
(2) Calvert Coates PRATT (b. 23 Dec 1921, d. 7 Mar 2000, m. 26 Apr 1947 to Mary
Archibald RORKE). They had three children, Calvert Jr., Robert (Judith), and Douglas (Patricia
Wadden). They also had six grandchildren, Jennifer, Elizabeth, Allison, Michelle, Douglas, and
Calvert. Mary died at St. John's September 1, 1999.
Florence Sophia PRATT was born at St. John's. There is no further information about her.
Nellie Beatrice PRATT was born at Fortune, Newfoundland. There is no further information about
her.
