Doctors

Pittsburgh Chiropractic
Dr Chad Baginski
The Park Building
355 Fifth Avenue, Suite 1325
Pittsburgh, PA 15222
412-325-1585

CIGNA office; located just a few blocks from the William Penn Hotel where I was staying. Dr Chad was very friendly and the office was very flexible in setting up some time for me. I went in a couple of times that week. They have a therapy area including massage, electrical stim, traction, etc.

Hotels

The Westin Convention Center
1000 Penn Avenue
Pittsburgh, PA
September 2006
$79.00 company rate.
Less than a fifth of a mile to the Benedum Center stage door. Westin Heavenly Beds and Showers are the best feature of this hotel along with its convenience to the Benedum. While there is 24 hour room service, the menu is limited and a bit pricey in that typical room service way. On the up side, the service is quick and friendly. They have in-room safes, basic cable (HBO but no Food Network or TCM), irons and full-sized ironing boards. Ask for higher up and city facing room for best view. Even if your company manager has asked for rooms with one king bed you may want to call ahead to confirm that you get what you asked for. Our company arrived to find only rooms with 2 double beds. Small (dorm size) refrigerators are available for no extra cost, but make your request as soon as you hit the property, as supply is limited. Also note that there are no laundry facilties in the hotel and there is no laundromat in the immediate area. INTERNET ACCESS: there is free wireless in the rooms BUT it is not high speed and not the most reliable of connections. You can pay for a better grade of high speed wireless, but that also is not the most reliable connection. You can connect into the system directly with a supplied ethernet cable but you have to pay for that as well. It's steep at $9.95 a day, but it is a great connection. One of our company members called up the service provider and got a better deal for the week, but it took some haggling.

Marriott Courtyard

$69.00 company rate
Less than a fifth of a mile to the Benedum Center stage door.
Cheaper rate than Westin, slightly better rooms, laundry facilities on site, breakfast as part of the deal, fridge and microwave in all rooms, and better cable channels and internet.

Omni William Penn Hotel

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15219

A classy, old hotel with the most amazing lobby! It was decorated for Christmas when we arrived and I just love sitting in it enjoying the atmosphere. Rooms varied in size, but were lovely. A short walk to the Benedum. Only problem was that there was not a lot of food around unless you wanted room service all of the time. But the hotel food was terrific, if I recall. There was a nice bar in the lobby and a bunch of us had a lovely tea at one of the restaurants.

Restaurants

Bossa Nova
123 7th St.
(2 blocks from Benedum)
Pittsburgh, PA

Tapas and cocktails. The service can be snooty, and you MAY NOT wear your baseball cap, but it's open after the show, has a good wine list and interesting menu and the room is great. Dinner before the show is not advised as the snooty service can also be slowwww. But the room and wine really do make a nice combination.

I would agree with Christopher. The menu here was very interesting and very good, but they were a bit of a pain in the ass. They were preparing for a private party when we arrived there for dinner and the host/owner/manager(?) chose to ignore us repeatedly. Our server, however, redeemed the restaurant.

Pamela's P&G Diner
60 21st St. (just off of Penn Ave, an easy walk just under a mile from Courtyard or Westin)

Part of the Strip District (blue-collar funky food shops, Steelers souvenirs, cafes, clubs...) this place gets lots of write ups and is well worth the stroll. Breakfast until 3PM (when they close) as well as basic lunch items. Don't miss the pancakes -- really crepes dripping with butter. Trust the staff for recommendations. P&G has several locations in the city, this is thought of as the best.

Sonoma Grille
947 Penn Avenue
(same building as Marriott Courtyard)

Another wine and food place that's pretty nice and reasonably priced. Friendlier than Bossa Nova. Kitchen closes at 11, so hurry out of the theatre. Try the Ahi Tuna Trio and a glass of the Tempranillo. Desserts are yummy, but ask you server about size -- some are ridiculously small.

Sree's Foods
701 Smithfield Street
(3 minutes from Marriott, Benedum, and Westin)

Indian, authentic, healthy, and cheeeeeap! Not much variety on any given day (they rotate the menu daily), but the best food buy in downtown Pittsburgh. Five dollars gets you three vegan dishes or delicious tamarind chicken and a vegetable side and bread and a bottled water. Very basic environment, but great for picking up and taking to your room.

Steel City Diner
961 Liberty Avenue
(5 minutes from Westin, Courtyard, and Benedum stage door.)

Really basic, NOT a health choice but great for cheap breakfast all day (they close at three) or typical diner fare for lunch.

Tonic
971 Liberty Ave.
(across the street from the Westin)

Nice place for lunch, dinner, or after show - sit upstairs if you can - soup and salad combo is a deal and the salad is excellent. Guinness on tap.

Located in the same building as Pittsburgh Chiropractic. I went there after one of my doctor's appointments and was able to get an immediate appointment. Very good massage and very reasonable. It was $75 or $90 for a 90 min massage; I can't find my notes, but in either case, a bargain!
