November 2006
Appleton, WI - "Birthplace" of Harry Houdini. This was Mamma Mia's third trip to Appleton and my second. What a great little town! The listings below were originally set up based on my first trip last April 2005, but have been updated for the more recent trip unless otherwise noted.

A nice, boutique hotel located a few blocks from the PAC. The beds were great, the rooms had DVD players, and terrific Jacuzzi tubs. They served a continental breakfast then if I recall. But the walls were a bit thin. We paid a pretty decent rate then (around $69.00 maybe), but it jumped to $99.00 for our stay in November 2006, so no one elected to stay there.

This hotel was fine. Many of the rooms faced inward to a courtyard, which was not great. I was lucky enough to get an outside room. All rooms are not upgraded to "Sleep Number" beds, but that was fine with me. There were several restaurants in the hotel, including Lombardi's (see below), and a Clubhouse that stayed open late after the show. It had a decent fitness room, and a big pool, sauna and spa. Walking distance to the PAC. They have a shuttle which can run you a round to a few places ($5.00-10.00 or so per run). There are tons of restaurants and a Walgreens within walking distance.

Japanese restaurant near the theatre. Nice atmosphere. I ate there a couple of times. The sushi was good, but a little pricey

Lombardi's Steakhouse
Located in the Radisson Hotel

Nice steakhouse with a pretty amazing wine list (as I was told by Annie, our company wine expert). Huge portions of side dishes and nice appetizers as well. A great Monday night dinner place to go.

Located in the Copperleaf Hotel, this spa had just opened the day we arrived in Appleton last April 2005 and I had a couple of masages then. Had another massage this time around and it was very good. I had forgotten about the amenities. Small but very nice waiting area (the Serenity area) before the massage with tea and ice water available. Nice showers and small changing room with robes and slippers available. $99.00 for a 90 minute massage.
