August 2006
Knoxville, Dollywood, and the Great Smokies. We had a bit of a stormy week, and I had to head out of town early, so I
really don't have a lot to report.
One of the locals gave me some fun info on Knoxville. It is the home of the Sunsphere from the 1982 World's Fair, featured
on "The Simpson's" (although there is no wig shop inside). Mountain Dew was first marketed in Knoxville in 1948
as a mixer for whiskey.

Less than mediocre Holiday Inn, but for $59.00 per night, I couldn't complain. Not a great location; you need a car to get
to any food. There is a decent mall just down the freeway, but other than that, nothing much.

Several locations; a chain, but good, yummy BBQ - ribs, chicken, brisket, pulled pork (yes, I said pulled pork). Cheap, too
and you can smell the wood burning pit a mile away. Sweet tea. . .Mmmmm.

Recommended by one of the locals, this place serves Egyptian and Southern food for lunch and themed dinners. It's a tiny place
with flashy-tacky decor with good, inexpensive food. The drinks are served in flower vases and Mo, the owner, is the sole
waiter and comes to chat with each table. There is also karaoke and Mo spins his disco lights. It's great fun.

Sweet little restaurant in the Market Square area. Sandwiches on fresh baked bread, pizzas with some really different toppings
and amazing desserts. They had a peanut butter pie to die for. They also offer vegan and vegetarian items.

The local press rep told me about the Tennessee School of Beauty which has a school of massage as well. A one hour massage
is $25.00. It was a nice facility; I was seen by a senior student. The treatment areas are only separated by a curtain, and
in my case I had a 90-year-old grandma next to me who was deaf as a post, but it was still a decent massage for such a cheap
price. They also have a Post-Graduate clinic for $45.00 per hour. It might also be possible for them to send a group of students
to the theatre with chair massages if it's pre-arranged. This was mentioned to me when I was finishing up.
