Mamma Mia! played San Diego in late October 2005. It was gorgeous and sunny and balmy pretty much every day. I went to grad school at San Diego State and several of our compny members went to UC San Diego or lived in the area, so this was a big homecoming for a lot of us. That being said, I really don't have a ton to put on here, but hope that other tours can help fill in the blanks.

My vacation was the week before we played San Diego, so to extend it I stayed at the Catamaran for a couple of days and treated myself to some spa time (see Spas below). I got a nice deal on a Bay View room for about $139.00 per night using my AAA card. It was a lovely room in the Tower. The onsite restaurant was pretty decent, and there were other restaurants within walking distance. There was an amazing little taco shack next door. They are located on the beach and the hot tub is in view of the water. It was a nice relaxing two days that I spent there.

Staybridge Suites
A Street

The hotel was fine, newly renovated, but in a funky location right by freeway entrances. Not too far from Balboa Park. The rooms were good-sized, but some of the rooms faced into each other into closed courtyard, so there wasn't a lot of light in them. The parking lot was small, and could be full sometimes coming home later at night. Walking distance to the San Diego Civic and the Gaslamp District. There was a trolley stop just a block or so away. If I recall, they also served breakfast. We stayed here in October of 2005, however, as of September 2006 as I am posting this, I cannot confirm the location on the hotel website, so this may be pointless as they may have been sold.

This was the office we were referred to on our city sheet. While the doctor was fine (not Dr Steinhardt, but the junior associate in the office, it seemed), I just didn't care for the office itself. My initial exam was in a semi-storage room, and I just didn't like the feel of the place. Now this may be just me, but I really believe that an office space is a reflection of the doctor, and this office didn't give me much confidence.

The massage here was just the opposite of the chi-chi treatments at the Catamaran Spa (see below), and I don't mean that in a bad way. The gym was the one recommended on our city sheet, and they had a small massage room, with a little gal who was so strong in opposition to her build. She did a really great deep tissue massage. Several of us went here and both of the massage therapists then on staff were very good and very reasonable.

The Spa was only a few months old when I came here. I loved it! I had a facial on Sunday, spent time in the steam room, the hot tub, the sauna, and walked on the treadmill while overlooking the beach. They had a lovely relaxation lounge and dressing room. Monday I had one of their "Rituals." It was the "Inara Ritual: a sugar rub, a Milk Bath, a body mask followed by a Swiss shower and a one hour full body massage. It was over two hours of treatments in a beautiful, clean room that had the massage table, bath and shower all in the same place for about $250.00. And I still could use the sauna, etc. I spent the entire day there. It was just amazing! One treatment at the spa gives you full access all day, you don't have to be a hotel guest. Next time I am in San Diego, I will be going back!
