July 2006
Mamma Mia! arrived in Dallas fresh from our month in Mexico for a two-week sit-down. The locals here were really terrific and very welcoming. We were fed after most of our matinees and just treated so well. The audiences were also terrific. But, boy was it hot!

Many of my fabulous castmates have begun to give me entries, so the listings you see are mine unless otherwise noted. And they all reflect our July visit.

Monday night is Karaoke and Tuesday is "Musical Theatre Night" (it wasn't very good). It is kind of a dive bar, but a good place to drink and relax.

Dallas, TX 75204

I was recommended to this doctor by the chiropractor in Memphis. Dr. Auerbach has a nice office in the Turtle Creek/Uptown area of Dallas. An accommodating office, with a lovely staff, I went here three times for adjustments. Know that she is a pretty aggressive adjuster, but that's what I need for my back. They have a full therapy area with a roller table, electrical stimulation, and a traction table. While in town I had a set of x-rays done (see CityDoc Listing, Dallas) and she found the place for me and gave me some additional exercises based on the x-rays. I would highly recommend her. They take CIGNA.

This is a general practice office. With three doctors in the group, I got the appointment immediately; I saw Dr Reed. This was a decent office, good for a quick check-up or, in my case, a follow-up for bronchitis. Covered by CIGNA.

One of our cast members went here for an emergency visit on a weekend. She got right in (after calling ahead) and was very pleased with the doctor and the office. Her eye exam was very thorough. Unsure if they are covered under the AEA vision plan however.

A relatively new office, which is open seven days a week, this office is only a few blocks from Dr. Auerbach (see Chiropractors). A previous chiropractor had suggested that I get a set of digital x-rays which I could then keep with me on the road. This is the facility where I had them taken. Very nice staff. I walked in, and walked out with a set of x-rays on disk within half an hour. They are currently out-of-network for CIGNA, but this is easier than a hospital, if you need it for something less than a serious emergency.

This is a Stott Pilates studio. A castmate and I took two duet classes there for 45.00 each. Solos run 65.00 and
trios run 35.00. Anyone who does Pilates will love this place. The woman who owns it loves Mamma Mia. She is very accomplished in dance and pilates, and she is a sweetie. Right next door to Philip's Salon (see Salons listings).

Most of our company stayed here this time round. The rooms aren't fabulous, but they are small suites with the bedrooms separate from the living space. They all have a small wet bar type set-up in the living area with a microwave, fridge, coffee maker and small sink.

Terrific little restaurant in the Uptown district (another location on Lover's Lane). Good breakfast and a weekend brunch (but get there early for the brunch). Terrific salads and sandwiches, plus great soups (see also Bakeries listing).

A steakhouse chain, but always reliable. Amazing Delmonico steaks, baked potatoes as big as your foot, great creamed spinach (my favorite meal combo). They usually have a pretty good wine list and some nice desserts as well. If the main dining room is full, you can always get full menu service in the bar.

This is more of a prepared foods market than a restaurant. You can get breads, soups, full dinners assembled either to eat at once or to cook at home. It's got a great selection and you can eat on site as well as take home. A great place to have nearby if you have a fridge and microwave at your hotel.

The chef here is amazing. They have a "Feed Me-Wine Me" menu: $45.00 for four courses, $70.00 for four courses with wine (per person).

The menu is a surprise for each diner, although you can let your server know in advance if you have any dislikes. The menu for this night consisted of wild boar, salmon, mussels, buffalo, yummy salads and desserts; each of us got different foods for each course. And the waitress paired some rare and delicious wines with each course.

Fun décor with guitars and plates signed by musicians, actors, models, etc. Really great place - highly recommended.

It's a good thing I didn't discover this restaurant until our last night in town. What a place! It looks like a diner from the outside and an old Hollywood style place on the inside. Amazing steaks; our filets were melt in your mouth perfect. Their specialty is stone crab which they will crack and do most of the work for you, so all you have to do is eat it. AND they have an amazing dessert called "The Sack" - yes, "The Sack." It is a 6-7" tall paper bag made of chocolate. It is filled with pound cake with buttercream frosting, assorted berries and whipped cream. One of my stage managers, Joyce, declared it "Sack-alicious!" It is so rich that it took five of us to finish it off. Now, this is not a cheap dinner, but one that is so worth it. They also have an all-you-can-eat crab night on ?. Go!
