Instructions for the Reader Response Assignment:
What is this assignment?
The Reader Response assignment will show me how well you've understood what you've been reading. Most college reading courses require students to write essays and responses to the literature, articles, and research that they do for their classes. Students who are coming from Level 4 should be used to doing this type of writing assignment.
What kind of writing should I do?
You can choose to do any of the following types of assignments for your Reader Response assignment:
- Copy a quotation from one of the chapters you've read in the novel. Write a paragraph of 10 lines minimum about the quotation. Perhaps you found the quotation to be very powerful, surprising, amusing, or interesting. Explain why. Or, perhaps the quotation reminded you of something from your own experience.
- Comment on something that happened in the chapter.
- You may choose to write about one of the readings that we've completed in Academic Encounters.
How much do I have to write?
You should write 1 good paragraph of a minimum of 10 lines. If you have particularly large handwriting, I expect you to write a minimum of 15 lines. Although this is not a grammar class, how well you express yourself counts. I expect you to use what you're learning in your writing and grammar courses.
