Artist Statement
The intent of my paintings is to express connections and processes of nonliteral thought and memory through abstracted flowcharts and schematic diagrams.
This body of work began over five years ago, deriving from my experience in industrial and information design,
where visual organization of information is a central process. Rather than relying on facts and figures to create order, the paintings use layers of texture and color to reveal paths and patterns that might organize the inexpressible.
I usually prefer to paint on square surfaces. I think this allows the piece to develop free from the spatial constraints of a perceived horizon. It lets the visual plane hang in a balance between vertical elevation and birds-eye view.
I intentionally keep my paintings devoid of imagery that would specify scale. This allows me to express a paradoxical point of view that is both close-up and far away.
My work is currently nonexclusively represented by LIMN Gallery, in San Francisco, Seattle and upcoming in Los Angeles and INSIDE in San Francisco
