ILT Program Review
In our Research in Information and Learning Technologies class, my
team of five examined the ILT program as it existed in early 2005,
and changes in the past that had led up to its structure. We
compared similar programs nationwide to try to find ways to improve
the ILT
program, and recommended suggestions for improvement in the
program.
By participating in this project, my group used various methods
of gathering data, including literature reviews, surveys, e-mails
to
experts, and personal interviews. I learned about the various ways
to gather a wide range of data, to use the data to back up proposed
ideas, and then format it to be clear and understandable to the
reader. I learned how to deliver the findings in a concise presentation
to
get the message to others in a brief and understandable way.
ILT Competencies Demonstrated
|
- Competency 1: Reflective Practice
The Program Review project required our group
to understand the relationships between the stakeholders in the
ILT program, the values of each group, and how they may not be
the same. I learned that change management would be necessary
to implement the suggestions we made in the program evaluation.
Our group sought to promote collaboration between stakeholders
to best improve the program.
- Competency 2: Planning and Analysis
We were required throughout the project to consider the ethical implications
of suggesting changes in the program. We examined the environment,
culture
and history of the program
to understand how previous policies
had evolved to create the program as it existed in 2005.
We researched other programs nationwide to judge the external
climate
and detect
emerging
trends that
might
be
useful in improving the program. A large part of my role was to investigate other competing programs in the higher
education marketplace, to evaluate and compare them with the
ILT program.
- Competency 4: Evaluation and Assessment
Our group was required to use action research methods to investigate
the history of the program, perceptions about it by stakeholders,
and the best aspects of other similar programs for comparison.
- Competency 5: Implementation and Change
Our group considered
how the results of our research would be communicated, the time
frames for implementing some of the ideas, how resistance to
change
might be overcome, and the roles of stakeholders in improving
the program.
- Competency 6: Management
During this projct, we collaborated
as a team and asked for each member's accountability to their
responsibilities.
