The real transcript to Saddam's hearing. I think it makes as much sense as any of the others.

And in other news, I now have a raging sore throat. So I'm gonna spend the next day or two with tea, sugar-free ice cream, Monty, Cary and George. Oh well, things could be worse.

Birthday loot!

Well, it's always fun to get birthday loot. I'm now getting old enough that my birthday is kind of a ho-hum event, but it's turning out quite well.

First was a surprise party in my office. I credit this to the fact that the people in the office are getting younger and birthdays mean more to them. It was very sweet of them, even though it really wasn't necessary. Now I have to try to remember everyone else's birthday to make sure they get a surprise party. I think we've gotten everyone at least once in the past year.

Many thanks for the other birthday loot that's turned up. I did get one thing that could be qualified as a guilty pleasure -- Lenny Kravitz' latest album. It sounds pretty much like all the others, which is good because I like all the others. I don't think any of them are as brilliant as the first one, which is a classic five star one. However, the guilty pleasure comes in in that I still have a thing for Lenny himself. I don't know why -- if you listed all his features and attributes, they're all on the list of things that I don't much care for. Long hair, tattoos etc. Hell, he's hawking stuff for Target now, and all I could think of is "I have to get me one of these", and I wasn't talking about the toilet paper or whatever it was they had in the background of the guy with the instrument.

I also have gotten some DVDs -- two Cary Grant movies (His Girl Friday and Philadelphia Story). If George isn't available to come round this evening for a very special birthday present, there's no one else I'd rather spend the evening with. I don't quite hold with the people who say George is the modern day Grant -- he's the modern Gable. Grant is a force unto himself. I also received more Babylon 5 (one more season to go) and the Do It Herself Guide to Home Repair. I have flipped through the pages, and there isn't a thing in there I really care to know how to do, although I expect I shall find myself doing all of it at some point. I also got some earrings, a gift certificate to Bed, Bath and Beyond (so the bathroom will be finished -- new shower curtain and who knows what else), and a lot of nuts. Everyone meant well on the nuts, but for one day, I'd have taken good chocolate. I suppose it's better to be good, though. My stomach will thank me for it in the morning.

I shall be getting a digital camera, courtesy of the parental units, as soon as I go play with a few to determine which one to get. So eventually there will be more pictures of the new technicolor condo with shiny new floors available.

Thanks for the cards and e-mails!
