More stuff for Mike to win

For those who haven't seen it already, I'll put in a plug for bitterspice'smusic quiz. It's no more easy than the other ones out there, but I could identify three off the bat. Dunno if I'll get any more, but at least I don't feel profoundly stupid when I look at the questions.

And here it is....

You guys are KILLING me. It was so close. He wasn't gonna win. Really. If I count being able to figure out what the songs actually were, he doesn't win. BUT he paid attention to the hint, and therefore when he didn't know the answer, he alternated between two artist choices, and therefore picked up the most points. So I'm gonna declare two winners. The overall winner, with the most points is.....

Mike! I’m sure you're all stunned. However, Mike, please note that less than half were Squeeze or Bluetones tunes. Neener.

However, in terms of actually identifying the most number of artists and titles, demonstrating that you could place the song, the winner is... Bet! Mike eked it out by one point, but Bet clearly identified two more songs. Heidi and Mike actually tied for second in identifying the same number of songs. The only one everyone got was number 10, although 13, 17, and 22 were gotten by all but one contestant. I actually expected people to not know the B-sides, but I underestimated you guys. You're the best.

Another hint -- if you're not sending in your entries with your normal screen name or e-mail address, you might want to sign off on your e-mail. I’m not sure, but I think Feffer may have had a sex-change operation. Is that why you've not been around so much lately?

Before I give you the answers, I feel the need to explain myself on some of these. Why no Elvis? I don't know -- I think he's got so many good ones that I rarely fixate on one. Many of the top entries are things that I didn't want to actually pay for, but had downloaded on my old computer. Therefore, when I first got iTunes and was using it, it kept playing the same few songs that I'd copied over, jacking up the hit count.

1. Plenty people like open space, give me a perfumed alleyway. I Love the City, Bluetones

2. Tell me I'm not in the blue, that I'm not wasting my feelings on you. (You Drive Me) Crazy, Britney Spears

3. You were in the sea on a decline breaking the waves. Letting the Cables Sleep, Bush

4. With me everything is turning out to be a kind of slapstick tragedy. Do you know what I mean? By The Light of the Cash Machine, Glenn Tilbrook

5. Like any hotblooded woman I have simply wanted an object to crave. Uninvited, Alanis Morissette

6. Now her parents are divorced and her friend's committing suicide. Mean To Me, Crowded House

7. We were lonely like socks that were lost in the dryer. Jumping, Squeeze

8. I said: Are you all right? I said I must be fine 'cause my heart's still beating. Fell in Love With A Girl, The White Stripes

9. Will I find a believer? Another one who believes? Another one to deceive? All My Life, Foo Fighters

10. He says his girlfriend lives too far away. Always at a friend’s house or on holiday. In Quintessence, Squeeze

11. Loves the soul in every soldier Trust, Squeeze

12. I’ve seen her at the club expanding with the funk. She looks so brilliant. Elephant Girl, Squeeze

13. The insurgency began, and we missed it. Begin the Begin, REM

14. He kept his world all to himself and locked it tied inside his belt, but she preferred his belt undone. What the Butler Saw, Squeeze

15. I nooded her again, and feel butterflies. Maidstone, Squeeze Hey, it’s my damn quiz. As an aside, in Glenn's new single, he accuses Chris of "folksy noodling" -- so he's familiar with that sound group. I'm just saying.

16. The manager looks on ignoring the problem, but sees no solution -- so what’s in it for him? Wrong Way, (or Wrong Again, Let’s Face It) Squeeze

17. I want a doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well. Turning Japanese, The Vapors

18. In case there’s a problem bring identification. C’Mon Every Beatbox, Big Audio Dynamite

19. Hey you with the pretty face -- welcome to the human race! Mr. Blue Sky, Electric Light Orchestra

20. This is a song about the everyday occurrences that make you feel like letting go. So Much For the Afterglow, Everclear

21. My name is might have been. My name is never was.... Celebrity Skin, Hole

22. Wanna be a gunslinger -- don’t be a pop singer! Pop Muzik, M

23. Science is susceptible, logic’s so inflexible Synchronicity 1, The Police

24. Well honey I don't care, I ain't in love with your hair -- and if it all fell out well I'd love you anyway Forever and Ever, Amen, Randy Travis

25. In Moscow it's 3:15. In New York let's see a show. I Must Go, Squeeze

Bonus: The Heisenberg Principle posits that you can’t really precisely measure two quantum properties of the same thing at the same time, as the act of observing one usually affects the value of the other. As I was preparing this quiz, the act of looking them up and giving them a spin to get the lyrics altered the number of times it was played, throwing the list out of whack.

Congratulations Mike! Thanks for playing!
