Random dumb thoughts
This page is to put those little weirdnesses of life that don't really fit anywhere else, or aren't worth a page of their own

In order to be culturally aware, I have decided to watch this year's Video Music Awards (or "VMA"s to the cognoscenti). Already, I'm not sure why. In the intro, I think that third woman was Christina Aguilera -- Mariah and Celine better watch out, as we have a new contender for the "oversinging, overstated and thinks she's waaaaay better than she is" crown.
Let's see if this works out at all.

Showing mercy never pays off. Correction, not following through never pays off.
In what is probably a splinter group from theMarxist Bee Brigade, last night I spied a small cricket sitting on my couch. I half-heartedly tried to catch it and smoosh it, but my heart wasn't in it, as I don't really believe in killing something just because you don't like the looks of it. I tried to shoo it into a container so I could get it outside, but s/he was having none of it and slipped behind the couch. I didn't think much of it, and eventually headed off to bed.
Well, I'm lying in bed and all of a sudden there's this horrendous "SCREEEEEEEEEEEEECH" coming from the bathroom (good acoustics, you see). The cricket took up residence in the bathroom somewhere and spent the entire night making an infernal racket. I think s/he was pissed that I tried to kill him, and is now setting up camp in my bathroom. I think he's on the net with the Marxist Bee Brigade coordinating a strategy.
Next time, I'm just going to nail the sucker. No more trying to preserve the lives of insects.

Why I HATE public transportation
1. When there are thunderstorms on the east coast, your flight gets cancelled and combined with another, you are stuck on the tarmac at an airport where you're not allowed to get up and go to the bathroom, you take off with lightening strikes all around you, you don't have a landing slot at LaGuardia so you have to circle, and it takes much longer than simply taking the Metro to Amtrak.
2. When the MTA has decided to close all of the downtown platforms between 96th and 137th streets, even though the sign says only 103d and 116th streets are closed, so you have to go all the way uptown to 137th street (such a lovely part of town, too), in order to get to Penn Station on 34th Street. However, this did allow me to keep in with the time honored tradition of never getting to the LIRR with more than 1 minute and 30 seconds to spare, so I guess it's okay.
Why I LOVE public transportation
1. No trucks on I-95
2. Taking off from NY at 9:40 am and landing in DC at 10:30 on a clear day. Which was good, as you still can't go to the bathroom on that flight.
