Questions, questions, questions....
PromoGuy's Monday Mission 3.20
1. This seems to be the year for movie sequels (Terminator 3, Matrix Reloaded, 2 Fast 2 Furious, LOTR: The Return of the King, etc.). Is there a movie you would like to see Hollywood make a sequel to? Not really. I don't mind sequels to action movies, because good action movies are formulaic anyway. There have only been a few where the sequels were any good, let alone better than the original. Star Trek II comes to mind -- but I'm not sure if that counts, because since it was based on a tv show, even the first movie could be considered a sequel of sorts.
2. What movie sequel do you think should never have been made? Not counting that made-for-tv abomination that was Scarlett, the sequel to Gone With The Wind, I think that Godfather 3 was completely unnecessary and spoiled a classic set of films. I think the hallmark of great film stories is that they are snapshots of time, and you're not supposed to know what comes next. Do Rhett and Scarlett get back together? Does Michael Corleone redeem himself? These are questions that should remain unanswered. Sadly, Hollywood's inclination is to take something that works and then bludgeon it to death until it's less than it was. I'm not sure if it's a quest for money or a lack of ideas. Probably both.
3. Are there any books (comic, novel, etc.) that you would like to see made into a movie? Who should star in it? "The Sunne in Splendor" by Sharon Kay Penman. It's a retelling of the story of Richard III, in which Richard is a sympathetic character and is woefully misunderstood. I have always wanted to see that movie be made, and at the same time on the same sets with the same cast, also do a version of Shakespeare's Richard III. I think it would be fascinating to show how you can tell the same story and have such different a different spin on things. It would also be instructive to use in the classroom to show how 'facts' can be shaped and crafted to produce very different stories, and to go behind the motives for why each story was created in the way that it was. I'm not someone who thinks much in the way of casting a film, so I don't have any real suggestions for parts.
4. When was the last time the you got a shot at the Doctor's office? Do you prefer them in the arm or your backside? Or would you rather just take a prescription? It's been a few years now. I tend to blow up in the arm when I get a shot, but I don't think I've ever had one in the backside -- not really an option, for some reason. As to a prescription -- I guess taking pills are easier, and many of the recent vaccinations I have had recently have been in pill form.
5. Do you make friends easier in "Real Life" or online or is it about the same? Do you have closer friendships in "Real Life" or online? Why do you think that is? Are you ok with that or would you like to make a change? I think it's about the same. I think people feel like they make friends easier online because there's a false sense of intimacy there, and less chance for blowback -- you're more willing to talk about personal things with people you can't see. Real people can be more trying and you can't always just log off to get rid of them when you're tired :-). I think you can make solid friendships in either venue, but you can also be burned in both as well.
6. When you first got your drivers license how did you feel ? Did you get it on the first try, second, third, more than that ? Do you have a license ? If no, do you plan to get one ? Why or why not ? I didn't get the warm fuzzies about a drivers license -- I never really liked to drive, but it's a necessary evil. I don't remember any strong feelings associated with the event. I think I got it and then proceeded not to use it for several months. I got it on the first try, naturally.
7. Have you ever had your tonsils removed? Did you ever come close? Tell me about that. Nope. Still got them.
BONUS: Who's that girl? Ignore the girl behind the curtain!
Today's comment question: How do you prefer to have your ice cream served? Cone (sugar, cake, waffle), cup, or something else? Ah, finally a truly important question. In a cup, unadorned. I'm an ice cream purist -- no cones, sprinkles, toppings or creams. I also don't like any thing that's got a gooey "ripple" in it.
