         Samuel Washburn and Mary Washburn presumably had only one child each who left descendants, so they are combined in this file. Again this is a work in progress, and will be revised as more information is accumulated. Because Mary was a daughter her descendants will not be carried forward further than this file.

Samuel4 Washburn (Jr.), only son of (94) Samuel3 Washburn, (51) Hope2, (30) William1; born in Derby, CT, on 4 May 1717, married Sarah Beach on 19 May 1741 in Derby.[1] He served in the French & Indian War, and died in the mili­tary service on 24 Oct. 1760.[2] His name was frequently spelled “Washbond” in the town records. Sarah Washburn was not a head of household in Connecticut in the 1790 federal census.

         Samuel Washburn (Jr.) and Sarah Beach had children:

         908      i   William Washburn, born on 28 Aug. 1742 in Derby, CT,[3] marriage not found. He was not a head of household in Derby, CT, in the 1790 federal census.

         909     ii   Mary Washburn, born on 4 Dec. 1744 in Derby,[4] died on 5 Dec. 1749 in Derby.[5]

         910     iii   Mary Washburn, born on 15 Aug. 1749 in Derby,[6] marriage not found.

         911    iv   Samuel5 Washburn (3rd), born on 6 Jan. 1751 in Derby,[7] married (____) in ca. 1773, and lived in Derby. Samuel Washburn was not found in Connecticut in the 1790 or 1800 federal censuses. He had at least 3 children:

a. Jerusha Washburn, baptized on 26 Nov. 1774 in St. James’ Church, Derby.[8]

b. Anna Washburn, a twin, baptized on 8 July 1785 in St. James’ Church, Derby.[9]

c. Sarah Washburn, a twin, baptized on 8 July 1785 in St. James’ Church, Derby.[10]

         912     v   Sarah Washburn, born on 4 Feb. 1755 in Derby,[11] baptized on 30 Mar. 1755 in St. James’ Church, Derby,[12] marriage not found.

+       913    vi   Eli5 Washburn, born on 19 Sept. 1758 in Derby,[13] baptized on 21 Sept. 1758 in St. James’ Church, Derby,[14] possibly married Mary Fish, daughter of Darius and Sarah (Howard) Fish, of Canterbury, CT,[15] on 9 Mar. 1786 in Canterbury, CT,[16] and lived in Canterbury. Mary Johnson, daughter of (96) Mary3 Washburn, (51) Hope2, (30) William1; born in Derby, CT, on 7 Nov. 1696,[17] supposedly married Samuel Barnes, son of Benjamin and Sarah (Ingersoll) Barnes, on 4 June 1722.[18] He was born on 16 Mar. 1697 in CT.[19] They lived in Waterbury, New Haven Co., CT. She died on 12 May 1760 in Waterbury, CT.[20]

         Mary Johnson and Samuel Barnes had children:[21]

         914     i   Abraham Barnes, born on 5 Aug. 1723 in Waterbury, CT, married Phebe Clarke, daughter of Caleb and Lois (Howe) Clarke,[22] on 20 Aug. 1744 in Waterbury, CT. She was born on 1 Mar. 1728 in Wallingford, CT, and died on 25 Apr. 1760.[23] They supposedly had children:

a. Abraham Barnes (Jr.), born on 25 Mar. 1745 in Waterbury, CT.[24]

b. Azubah Barnes, born on 21 June 1746 in Waterbury, CT, married Solomon Tompkins on 10 Mar. 1765. He died on 23 June 1823, and she died on 28 Mar. 1832.[25]

         915     ii   Mary Barnes, born on 24 May 1725 in Waterbury, married John Slater, widower of her sister, Martha Barnes, on 11 Nov. 1755. She died in 1789. John Slater was not found in the 1790 Federal Census in Connecticut. They supposedly had children:

a. Cynthia Slater, born on 18 June 1759 in Waterbury, CT,[26] died on 17 Oct. 1830.[27]

b. Martha Slater, born on 4 Nov. 1761 in Waterbury.[28]

c. Mary Slater, born on 27 Jan. 1765 in Waterbury, died on 30 Jan. 1811.[29]

         916     iii   Benjamin Barnes, born on 27 May 1726 in Waterbury.

         917    iv   Martha Barnes, born on 4 Sept. 1728 in Waterbury, married John Slater in 1750. She apparently died by 1755, and he remarried to her sister, Mary Barnes, on 11 Nov. 1755.

         918    v   Hannah Barnes, born on 20 May 1730 in Waterbury, married Daniel Barnes, son of Thomas and Susannah (Scoville) Barnes, on 27 Mar. 1758. He was born on 4 Oct. 1736 in Waterbury, CT. They supposedly had children:[30]

a. Huldah Barnes, born on 22 Apr. 1759 in Waterbury, CT.

b. Thomas Barnes, born on 19 Apr. 1760 in Waterbury.

c. John Barnes, born on 15 Oct. 1762 in Waterbury.

d. Benoni Barnes, born on 16 Sept. 1764in Waterbury, married Content Scott Peck, daughter of Jeremiah Peck. He died on 30 Nov. 1828, and she died on 30 Mar. 1844.

e. Demaris Barnes, born on 15 Dec. 1766 in Waterbury.

f. Edward Scoville Barnes, born on 29 Nov. 1772 in Waterbury.

         919    vi   Anna Barnes, born on 9 May 1732 in Waterbury, died on 17 June 1733.

         920   vii   Ann Barnes, born on 28 May 1734 in Waterbury, married John Scoville (Jr.), son of John and Tibitha (Upson) Scoville, on 14 Sept. 1762 in Woodbury, Litchfield Co., CT. He was born on 27 Oct. 1738 in Waterbury, and died on 15 Sept. 1807 in Woodbury, CT. She died on 20 June 1815 in Woodbury. John Scovel was living in Waterbury, CT, in the 1790 Federal Census.[31] They supposedly had children:[32]

a. Reuben Scoville, born on 2 Oct. 1765 in Waterbury, CT, married Mabel Andrus on 17 June 1801 in Watertown, Litchfield Co., CT. He died in ca. 1853 in Burton, Geauga Co., OH.

b. John Scoville (3rd), born on 17 Feb. 1768, died on 5 Sept. 1768 in Waterbury.

c. John Scoville (3rd), born on 2 Aug. 1770 in Waterbury, married Sarah Eliot on 21 Oct. 1798 in Waterbury, CT.[33] He died on 17 Aug. 1816,[34] or on 10 Oct. 1830.[35]

d. Anna Scoville, born on 27 Dec. 1772 in Waterbury.

e. Truman Scoville, born on 24 Feb. 1774 in Waterbury.

f. Clarissa Scoville, born on 24 Feb. 1776 in Waterbury, supposedly married Hubbard Loomis on 15 Dec. 1802 in Russell, Hampden Co., MA,[36] and died on 20 Aug. 1809 in Russell, MA.[37]

g. Joseph Scoville, born ca. 1780, married Caroline Preston on 10 Oct. 1813 in Woodbury, CT.[38]

         921   viii   Samuel Barnes, born on 20 Jan. 1736/7 in Waterbury.
