I'm going to use this page to occasionally post pictures and explanations of what I'm currently working on.  In case you're curious, I happen to be a big fan of Legos, and I absolutely love being able to escape the pressures of life and waste away the hours building random things out of my imagination.  Feel free to shoot me an email or two if you have questions or comments.

Alrighty, here are the first pictures I have.  Simply put this is the head of a mech that I've decided to build.  This should be the final version barring some unforeseen conflict with the torso or shoulder sections.  The red and gray color scheme should be my final choice throughout, though I would love to make this in blue or even green.  The only portion that is cut off in these pictures are 2 black arials off the back of the head.  They were a tad too tall  and not really impressive enough to warrant being shown.

Here are a couple pictures each of the upper chest and left shoulder sections.  The right shoulder will be identical to the left, though the possibility of altering one with add-ons isn't out of the question.  The chest section has a forward/backward hinge to connect to the head, and the shoulders connect to the red 'pins' to allow for circular movement.  Also, the grey section on the shoulder piece moves side to side around a center point.

Above are the upper chest and head sections hooked together to give you an idea of what I'm working with.  As you can see, the head is set slightly forward of the center line created by the shoulders.  I had at one time set it directly centered on that line, but it didn't feel right, and it allowed the backpack I've created to balance much better with the overall feel.

Ok, above is the mech as it stands right now.  There are a couple of things to point out though.

First, the yellow 'headlight' bricks on the chest are merely temporary while I fish out some light grey ones to match the rest of that section.  This is the same for the red inverted slope on the back end of the chest section(of which there are 2).

Second, the set of the shoulders used to be one brick higher, but I changed them once I put the pieces together.  They seemed a tad high overall, and by lowering them it allowed the head section to be more pronounced.

Third, I will probably be adding a few 'greebles' to the overall design.  For those that aren't geeks, this is basically generic bits and bobs that are added to things like starships and such to give them a more 'realistic' and 'functional' appearance.  They really serve no purpose other than keeping sci-fi designs from looking too sleek(unless that IS the point of the design).

Okay, here is the chest as it stands now.  As you can see I've replaced the yellow headlight bricks with grey ones to complete the front, but the red inverted slopes are still there.  Also, I've added what may become the final hip assembly minus a rotational piece to allow the torso to twist.

The legs will attach to the two pins on either side, which are themselves attached to ball joints, to give a good range of motion to the sides and front to back.

Here are the first shots of the backpack for this mech.  I rather like the design I've come up with, but the middle section is still a tad unfinished.  There are planned to be 3 sets of 'fins' off the back, each of which is rotateable within a small range along the vertical axis.  I've moved them around a bit in each of the photos to show this effect, and how neat they look in different positions.

Here is the updated left arm and shoulder section.  This is actually the second pass at the arm since the first one was too long and didn't look right.  There are a couple notables in these pictures as well.  First, the blue bricks will be replaced with grey, as will the red plates just above them.  I plan for the entire length of the arm to be grey so that anything that's place over them, using red, will stand out well against it.  Second, there is a black bracket that will also become grey in a final version.

Alright, here is the final assembly as it looks so far.  I think the 'weight' of the model as a whole is right on with my original vision, and the overall balance seems right.  Beyond that, it doesn't take much to keep it standing level, even with the backpack on, so this seems to be a good setup so far.
