The South Park series screamed onto television in the late 1990s and ushered in a new age of foul language and sex
on television. Direct descendents of this series, like Family Guy, have merely traded on its success, but precious few
have ever come close to the pure social satire and overwhelmingly hilarious plotlines South Park's creators bring to life.
When this film was first advertised I highly doubt many people knew exactly what to expect from it, and I dare say that
most figured it would be little more than a 2 hour long episode. In a way this is true, however, this film also allowed
the creators to spread the creative wings and work without the bounds that regular television censorship applies to this series.
From the opening sequence to the final frames, South Park - Bigger Longer and Uncut takes the crude language, toilet
humor, and sexual references to the limit.
The story is a fairly simple one. The release of a new film filled with crude language, toilet humor and sexual references
warps the minds of the children of South Park, and leads the crusading mother of one of the kids to start a massive protest
movement that eventually leads to war with Canada. Outrageous for sure, but like the television series that spawned
it, the South Park film is a wonderful social sattire that points out how often parents seek to blame other things besides
themselves for their child's problems.
The simple animation that has become a staple of the series is recreated on screen in a much more improved state, but if
you're watching this series for the animation then you are definitely watching for the wrong reasons. This film also
contains a large amount of songs sung by the characters, and would probably qualify more as a musical than as a normal film,
but the songs are definitely in line with the rest of the film. Besides being well written and performed, they also
help move the story along as well as provide even more laughs.
In short, South Park - Bigger Longer and Uncut is an amazingly hilarious work, but it's definitely not for everyone.
If you can watch this film without laughing or come away from it with a feeling of having been poked fun at, then you are
definitely taking things a little too seriously. This film is a great addition to the collection of any fans of
the series, and a must see for those of you with a great sense of humor and thick skin. Due to the fairly graphic nature
of some of the content, however, I definitely recommend that NO kids see this unless their parents are fully aware of what
it contains.
