Priest is a korean manga following the trail of Ivan Isaacs as he seeks out and destroys the unholy followers of the
demon Temozarela. This first volume introduces us to a few of the main characters, namely Ivan Isaacs, Lizzie,
and the mysterious Belial. It also sets the stage artistically with hard, angular character, quick action, and violent,
bloody ends to countless characters.
The Priest series is a mix of pseudo religious and fictitious themes in plot, played out in a rather surprisingly
successful blend of both spaghetti western and gothic horror. The unique setting mixed with the remarkably well
envisioned, though a bit cliched, characters lends a lot of weight to what seems to be little more than another action-oriented
story aimed at male readers.
Admittedly, this series won't appeal to everyone, but for fans of horror this is a great introductory chapter to what
I've found to be an excellent read. Priest is read in the traditional 'western' style of left to right so it won't seem
too out of the ordinary for newcomers to manga and manwha, and it just may convince you that there is much more out there
for the comic book fan that superheroes in spandex. After having read deep into the series, Priest has found a place
among my top 10 favorite comic/manga series past or present, and I'm quite sure that it could easily find its way into your
top 10 if you give it a chance.
