The first season of Rescue Me starring Dennis Leary is a powerful drama interspliced with the dark comedy Leary is a master at.  Following the lives of a house of firemen, Rescue Me is at once both hilarious and tragic.  The early episodes follow Tommy(Dennis Leary) as he struggles with a failing marriage, alcoholism, hallucinations, and regret for the friends and family he lost in the tragedy of September 11th, 2001.

 

Though I was skeptical at first, I was quickly drawn into the characters and their lives.  From the old 'seen it all' fire chief to the probie and his 'unacceptable' girlfriend, all the characters have a unique and compelling life that's not often found in most cookie cutter dramas shown on broadcast t.v.  With Season 2 just getting underway, this is a wonderful opportunity to catch up with the rest of us that have fallen in love with this series.
