Sin City is a dark, gritty comic series that was recently turned into a major motion picture.  This first volume in the series portrays Marv and his search for the person responsible for killing Goldie, a prostitute killed in his bed while he slept.  Using pure muscle and grit, Marv quickly beats a path through the criminal underworld in search of both reasons and revenge.

Frank Miller's beautiful lines follow my own love of the first person, and readers are not treated to insights that the main character is unaware of.  Sharp dialogue and plenty of inner monologues rule the day in this book.  Although the blood and gore is kept to a minimum, there are a lot of suggestive themes, as well as brief bits of nudity, and I therefore recommend parents be mindful of this before letting their kids get their hands on it.

All in all, this book is both a wonderful read and a great companion to the movie.  If you're a fan of the film and you haven't read these, then you are definitely selling yourself short.
