Born on August 1, 2001; SOS is incorporated, insured and tax exempt under IRS 501(c)3 making all your donations tax deductible.
SOS services South Eastern Wisconsin with an emphasis on the Milwaukee area.
Since we are an all volunteer organization, we rely on
solely on donations to tend to the Dalmatians in our care. Every Dal coming through SOS is spayed/neutered, up to date on all
vaccines, microchipped, heartworm tested and on preventative BEFORE adoption; approximately $165 per Dal. Please help us help
save a life.
SOS Mission
The goal of SOS Dal Rescue, Inc. is to be a resource for the public, owners, adopters, shelters, and other
rescue organizations by providing education, training, and behavior modification for the Dalmatian breed. Thereby reducing the
number of surrenders, strays and euthanasia of healthy, adoptable unwanted Dalmatians.
With those goals in mind, SOS intends on doing
limited rescue by concentrating on 3 area facilities: specifically HAWS, WHS, and MADACC. SOS will service other shelters
in SE Wisconsin as foster space is available. However, adoptions can be made in the surrounding states.
SOS's Board of
Directors
Linda Mueller, Lori Holz and Diana Herman, along with over 15 valuable volunteers work hard to help our spotted friends.
Our volunteers are dog trainers, vet assistants, social workers, office professionals, firefighters and more. We attend training
seminars to continue our education in animal behavior.
Services to the Community
SOS serves as a resource by working with
potential owner surrender cases. We know that, often, the behavioral issues that prompt owners to relinquish their Dalmatian can be
solved with behavior modification and training instruction to the owner. Owner surrender consultations will assist those who don't
know where to start in training their Dalmatian.
Of course, there are always owners who claim bad behavior on their Dal's part. However, when pressed, they simply want
the dog out of the household. Some of those people we can't help and the Dal will be surrendered, but for those we can, we wish
to give them tools and instruction on ways to keep their Dals. Hopefully, reducing the surrender rate will reduce the number
of strays and shelter relinquished Dals.
About our Dals
Before SOS agrees to take a dog into rescue, all Dals are carefully screened
in the shelter and/or current home. All must have good temperaments and be able to live in a family environment.Temperament evaluation
by trained SOS volunteers includes testing for food and toy possesiveness, dog, cat and child aggressiveness.
We also assess for evidence
of obedience training, as well as the dogs ability and willingness to learn.
Our adoption fee of $200 includes the following:
- spay or
neuter
- rabies, distemper and bordetella vaccines
- heartworm testing and heartworm preventative
- microchip for identification purposes
- ongoing
resource for behavior modification and training
Please know that our costs to totally vet a Dalmatian could be in excess
of $165. The difference between the cost and the adoption fee is applied toward supplies for the dog since many come without leashes,
collars, beds, crates, food or toys.
We also have other expenses such as: Insurance, long distance telephone fees, website costs, dog
training classes, printing costs and more.
