INTRODUCING

Dear Readers:
Please welcome Ms. Mary Turenne to the White Wings lineup!

Mary is a poet, mother of four, and professional woman whose work has been published in no less than nine anthologies of poetry: including three times in Outstanding Poems of the Year and in Outstanding Poets of 1994. Her work will also appear in the forthcoming Best Poets of 1998. She has received four Editor's Choice Awards from the National Library of Poetry, and has been given a membership in the International Society of Poets.

Mary's work makes use of the simplicity and beauty of rhymed forms, and reminds me quite a bit of the poetry of fellow White Winger Jane Hu. What I like most about Mary's poems is that they chronicle the human struggles for identity, love, healing and wholeness.

No stranger to adversity, Ms. Turenne has triumphed over many challenges in her life. Her warmth, compassion and humanity make her a shining example and a beacon of hope to those who are in despair.

Mary would like readers to carefully consider the following:

Power of the Word

And the word poet:

One of great imaginative and expressive gifts
Special sensitivity to his medium
And the word poem:

A creation, experience or object suggesting

And I say to you: when I think of imaginative or expressive or creation or sensitivity, which are all words unto themselves, that once put together as in the poet or the poem, I can only think of the creator of beautiful and wondrous worlds. Ones filled with such emotion and passion, and sometimes pain.
