MAP Alerts #355, January 28, 2007 With ISP troubles on my end, I "promoted" Gerards 1-28-2007 message to a MAP alert, and my own message followed incorrectly as #357, now corrected at the site. By Gerard: Greetings All: Thank you Lawrence for this MAP Alert 354 on our Report of the activity of the MAP during the period 1996-2006 ! Before some additional indications on this report, I have a New : Recently, Roger HARVEY observed three new MAP Objects. Lawrence will write on them soon. Nevertheless, I wish to note that one of these objects numbered (6724)1991 CX5 is HIS **4500th DIFFERENT ASTEROID OBSERVED VISUALLY**, on January 27,2007 CONGRATULATIONS ROGER FOR THIS VERY HIGH TOTAL ! As announced in the MAP Alert 354, the MAP Report of the ten years of activity ( 1996-2006 ) on an webpage named "MAP_REPORT_1996-2006_ENGLISH" is loadable at : http://astrosurf.com/aude/map/MAP_REPORT_1996-2006_ENGLISH.htm May be you had no free time to read it ? In this case, you will find below the main results. This report contains the MAP history, some pictures on the more active observers and on their telescope, but also many analyses and tables on the MAP results; There is also a quick description of the tests made to find and easy method permitting more CCD measures with the goal of 0.1 magnitude of accuracy. The tests will continue during 2007. On December 31,2006, the MAP Database contained 430 asteroids, 4927 individual measures put on 3411 lines of averaged measures. This high number of measures permitted to obtain some interesting results on the H magnitudes of some asteroids observed on at least 3 oppositions, after the making of many measures by at least 3 observers. In the table below, you will see notably 4 objects (1444, 1384, 5641, 1388) with an estimated size divided by 2 and 1 object (921) increasing its size by 50 % !! Of course, the revisions of the diameters are yet estimative, as many of the official estimated diameters, because the albedo notably is often unknown, but the estimation of the real diameters is better than before with the MAP revisions. Many other minor planets were observed during these ten years and if for many of them, we have not yet definitive results, by the actual lack of measures (and noted by an "?" near the "Diff.H mag" in the table, below), we discovered some probable high discrepancies of H magnitudes for many objects.
