Joining the Spacewatch FMO Project in April 2004, I began the task of image review in a quest to discover an FMO
or fast moving object, in this case the small asteroids of the near-Earth class. Getting up in the middle of the night
during the observing window was pretty much guess work, until my suggestion of an image alarm to wake observers made
things very much easier and more productive for all.
My first find, 2004 MO1 was discovered on a night I reviewed just 4 images before the music alarm was introduced. This
was my 316th image reviewed. To date (8-25-05), this object remains both the largest find, at H 23.2, and the fastest angular
rate of 11.9 degrees. Found 2004 June 17 MPEC 2004-M25.
My second find on 2004 Sept 16 (MPEC 2004-S11) was 2004 SA. With this find, I became the first to have made two confirmed
discoveries. At this time I was on vacation, and set the "impossible" goal of reviewing 500+ images and making my second find.
These goals were met after reviewing 28 downloads in a row over a 8 day peroid, as many as 4 wake up calls a night.
Despite this quick success, I ended the program with more then 4500 images reviewed without another discovery.
