After
studying film and video production, photography, and communications
theory,
I received a B.A. in Visual Communication from Mills College in 1984. My first involvement in the independent filmmaking community was as in 1985, as a stills photographer on public television, and a local low-budget feature. In the early 90's, I worked as an Assistant Director, Script Supervisor, Stills Photographer, and Production Assistant for a few Hollywood features, indie productions, and in the production department on the Nash Bridges TV show. In 1993, like many first time indie filmmakers, I produced, directed, wrote, and shot my first short film, Ifé. It is a 5 min. B&W, 16mm film, and won audience favorite short at the Madrid Women's International Film Festival. In 1995, I wrote, directed and produced my second 16mm short, Sightings. If you want to get the inside scoop on what it's like to produce a short film on a shoestring budget, check out the article I wrote, Make Your Own, published in Femme Flicke (out of publication), and re-published in 2006 in The Ms. Films D.I.Y. Guide To Film & Video. The article, includes parts of my film journal, which chronicles my experiences producing and directing those two short films. I am currently producing and directing a feature length documentary, a PERSISTENT Desire, which is an intimate look into the culture of butch and femme identities and dynamics in the 21st century. Please contact me at (415) 789-8477, or lennk@earthlink.net, for commissioned photography, artist promotion, copywriting (web and print), transcription services and more. A few other tidbits about me: I volunteer as a mentor to LGBT youth. I'm a serious musicphile -- I make awesome CD mixes, and sometimes D.J. I also enjoy jamming on the flute and and tenor sax, and composing electronic music. ![]() me on the baritone sax back in the day. |
