Kayaking with Hobie Mirage-drives

...around the West....

Silver Lake, on the June Lake Loop, has a small channel feeding the west end of the lake.

Silver Lake offers spectacular views of the High Sierras, near Mammoth Lake area.  The June Lake Loop is located off Highway 395, south of Lake Tahoe.

From Silver Lake, we traveled to Loon Lake (Jeanne shown below).  Loon Lake can be treacherous for conventional kayaks, due to strong wind in the afternoon.  Conventional kayaks can be trapped at the inaccessible end of the lake, resulting in a long night on the rocks.  We had no problem re-crossing the lake against wind and chop.

An excellent put-in is found at the end of the west dam, and can be reached with a vehicle.

Donner Lake, just west of Reno, Nevada, is encircled by cabins and forest.

We paddled up the shallow stream (West end)
