WIDENING COLUMNS IN WINDOWS EXPLORER
When you are in "detail view" in
Windows Explorer (this is the view that looks most like
the listing that the old DOS command "DIR"
shows), you will be shown in each line on the right pane:
the name of the file or folder, the size, the
modification date, and a file type field which Windows
tries to interpolate from the file extension. If your
Explorer screen isn't wide enough, each of the columns
might not show as much info as could possibly be shown.
Did you know that you can widen the columns? You just
have to move the mouse cursor until it rests on the
vertical bar between columns on the column headings
field, where the cursor changes into something that looks
like a cross (or plus sign) with the horizontal bar
having two arrowheads on the ends. When this happens, you
can drag the column division bar in either direction
horizontally, and thus widen the columns. This same
technique works in the "Find Files or Folders"
window also. Now you can easily tell the full path name
of any file or folder you search for.
