KIOSK MODE OF EXPLORER
You presumably know about the Maximize button on
most windows -- the icon at the top righthand corner of
the window, that looks like a square with a heavy top
border; press it and your window will take up your entire
screen. In Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer, there
is a way of increasing the amount of space devoted to
what is being displayed, rather than the menus and
toolbars. It is called "kiosk mode." You get it
by pressing the F11 function key. It will hide all the
toolbars and other bars, even the taskbar, leaving only
one bar with the basic buttons, and no labels, when you
press it in Internet Explorer. In Windows Explorer the
case is very similar, except you still have the line with
the column labels for file, type, size, etc. if you are
in Details view. To exit kiosk mode and go back to the
normal display, just hit the F11 key again. This mode is
present in all versions of Windows starting with Windows
95, except that for that version you must have installed
Internet Explorer version 4's Desktop update.
