FINDING FILE SIZES IN EXPLORER
The file size shown in "detail view"
of Windows Explorer is a rounded-off figure in kilobytes
or megabytes. To get more accurate size of any file (in
order to estimate whether you have room enough to store
the file on a floppy disk, for instance) all you have to
do is click on the file, then look at the "status
bar" at the bottom of the Explorer window. This will
show you the actual number of bytes (if it is less than
one kilobyte), or a slightly more accurate figure in
kilobytes or megabytes otherwise. You also get a figure
telling you how much free disk space is left on the disk
or drive containing your file. If you click on a folder
instead of a file on the right pane, you are not given a
size figure for all files within the folder. But you can
click on a folder in the left pane of the window, and
this gives you a sum of the sizes of the files in the
folder.
