DRAGGING AND DROPPING FILES IN EXPLORER
When you drag a file or folder (or group of them) from
one place to another in Explorer you will usually end up
either copying or moving them. This assumes you depress
the left mouse button as you drag and drop; if you use
the right mouse button, you're given an option in the
context menu to choose whether you want to copy, move, or
create a shortcut. If you drag and drop from one drive to
another, it's always a copy. If you drag and drop with
both source and destination being the same drive, it will
usually be a move. One exception is when you drag and
drop a program file; in this case the default is to
create a shortcut. How do you tell what Windows is going
to do? You can look at the lower right corner of the
cursor as you drag it; if there is a small plus sign
there then Windows will create a copy; if there is a
small arrow, then Windows will create a shortcut; if
there is no symbol at all, then the drag will perform a
move operation.
