GETTING BACK A LOST SPEAKER ICON
When you first got your computer, if it had a sound card
installed, you probably saw a little Speaker icon in the
System Tray area of your Task Bar. When you clicked on
this, you could drag a slider up and down in order to
adjust speaker volume, or you could click on the check
box for Mute to turn off the sound entirely. One of the
common problems that Windows users encounter -- I don't
know why -- is that this little Speaker icon gets lost
somehow; one day it just disappears from the System Tray.
Do you know how to get it back? It's not too involved:
click on the Start button, then the Settings item on the
Start Menu, and then Control Panel. Now double click on
the Multimedia icon in the Control Panel. Click on the
Audio tab. You will see a check box for "Show volume
control on the Taskbar"; click to put a check mark
in that item, finally click on OK, and your speaker icon
will come back.
