VERSION CONFLICT MANAGER IN WIN98
There is a term "DLL Hell" that relates to the
problems many people have in installing new programs in
Windows 9x, which then causes other programs or parts of
Windows itself to not work correctly. The problem comes
up because most of the program components of Windows and
third-party offerings are shared in what are called DLL
files. DLL stands for Dynamic Link Library; I won't
attempt to describe what that means any further here. But
when a new program is installed, it may overwrite an
existing DLL file with its own version, and this version
may be older than the existing one, or incompatible in
some way. How do you find out if there is a version
conflict for system files on your computer? You run the
Version Conflict Manager, and the easiest way to do this
is: click on the Start button, then on the Run item on
the Start Menu, type "VCMUI" (without the
quotation marks) in the Run dialog box, click on OK.

The Version Conflict Manager will display a list of files
that may be causing you trouble. If you want to restore
the proper version of a file, just click on it in the
list in order to select it, and then click the button for
Restore Selected Files.
