REGISTRY RESTORE
Sometimes you do so much damage to the Windows Registry
by all your uninformed fooling around, or by installing
and un-installing programs unsuccessfully, that Windows
starts causing you a lot of crashes, error messages,
'Blue Screens of Death', etc. With the 98 version of
Windows, there is a new capability for restoring a
previous version of the Windows Registry that worked, and
this might just solve all your problems. (Windows 98
backs up your Registry the first time you boot each day,
and it keeps the five most recent backups on disk.) You
need to restart Windows in MS-DOS mode (this is one of
the options on the Shutdown menu.) When you are at the
DOS prompt, you type in the following DOS command
(without the quote marks): "CD
\WINDOWS\COMMAND". Then type in this command (again
without the quotes) "scanreg /restore". Then
you will be given a choice of the five backups of the
Registry to restore from. Reboot after you do that, and
Windows will start up with the restored Registry.
