TEMPORARILY DISABLE YOUR SCREEN SAVER

Sometimes you would like to make sure your screen saver doesn't come up during a long period of keyboard and mouse inactivity: for example, I like to do this when I am downloading a large file and I would like to be able to glance at the progress box to get an idea how much longer the download will take, but in the meantime I'm reading a book or doing some other productive activity not involving my computer. Another possible time is when you are defragging a large drive. Well, you can always go to the Screen Saver tab on the Display page in Control Panel in order to set your screen saver to "(none)", but this may be more trouble than it is worth. Here is a quick way to temporarily disable your screen saver: just click on the Start button and bring up the Start Menu. The screen saver should never come up while the menu is shown.
