SHORTCUT TO SHUT DOWN THE COMPUTER

In order to shut down Windows and your computer, you usually have to go through a number of movements and clicks of the mouse: first, the Start button, then the Shut Down... option on the Start Menu, then perhaps choose the option for Shut Down, if one of the others (Restart or Restart in MS-DOS mode) is already checked, and then finally click on the OK button. It is possible to create a shortcut that shuts down your computer immediately. You create the shortcut on your Desktop, but then it can be moved to a convenient place like the Taskbar tray area or the Quick Launch bar, assuming you have Windows 98/ME or Windows 95 with Internet Explorer 4.0 or later. Here's how: right click on a blank area of the Desktop and select New, and then Shortcut from the Context Menus that pop up. In the command line of the shortcut dialog box, type in the following (or something similar, your Windows directory may be called something else, such as Win95):

C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.EXE User,ExitWindows

Shutdown shortcut

Clicking on this shortcut will shut down your computer at once. If any programs are running with open files, you will be asked if you want to save the files, but that's about it.
