DISK AND MEMORY SPACE USAGE OF WINDOWS 95
How much of your precious computer memory and hard drive
space will Windows 95 consume? Microsoft insists that 4
megabytes of memory will be sufficient, and it's true: I
have only that miniscule amount on my Toshiba laptop
computer, and Windows 95 does operate, but just barely.
It's pretty durned slow sometimes, and I can't have more
than perhaps 3 or 4 programs operating simultaneously.
All the magazine articles I've read recommend that
Windows 95 will require at least 8 megabytes to perform
satisfactorily, and you should preferably have 16
megabytes.
Microsoft also says that you need 40 megabytes of hard
disk storage in order to install Windows 95. Again, that
is barely sufficient. Most of the magazine articles I've
read recommend 60 megabytes. The amount of disk storage
required depends upon various things, such as: whether
you choose the custom (default) installation or the
advanced (user-specified) option, whether you're
installing from floppy disks or the CD-ROM version,
whether you're installing on a laptop or a desktop
computer, whether you overwrite the old version of
Windows or save both of them on your hard drive...
