DISK AND MEMORY SPACE USAGE OF WINDOWS 95

How much of your precious computer memory and hard drive space will Windows 95 consume? Microsoft insists that 4 megabytes of memory will be sufficient, and it's true: I have only that miniscule amount on my Toshiba laptop computer, and Windows 95 does operate, but just barely. It's pretty durned slow sometimes, and I can't have more than perhaps 3 or 4 programs operating simultaneously. All the magazine articles I've read recommend that Windows 95 will require at least 8 megabytes to perform satisfactorily, and you should preferably have 16 megabytes.

Microsoft also says that you need 40 megabytes of hard disk storage in order to install Windows 95. Again, that is barely sufficient. Most of the magazine articles I've read recommend 60 megabytes. The amount of disk storage required depends upon various things, such as: whether you choose the custom (default) installation or the advanced (user-specified) option, whether you're installing from floppy disks or the CD-ROM version, whether you're installing on a laptop or a desktop computer, whether you overwrite the old version of Windows or save both of them on your hard drive...
