DISABLE FIND FAST
Microsoft Office and its components (such as Word, Excel,
etc.) are by default installed with a utility called Find
Fast. This utility is supposed to speed up various
performance aspects of Office, but many people have found
that it greatly inhibits the speed of the rest of
Windows. If you want to remove Find Fast, first delete
the icon from the StartUp folder on your Start Menu.
Since Find Fast also puts an applet in the Control Panel,
you should go to your Office Tools setup and remove the
program using the Add/Remove Programs option. You might
need to find the file FindFast.cpl in your Windows/System
folder and delete that too. Before you do the last two
steps, you should run the Find Fast applet in Control
Panel, and use it to select each existing index file and
then choose Delete Index on the Index menu. This will
gain you back some space used by these hidden index
files. Then click on the Close and Stop item on the Index
menu.
