CHANGING THE DEFAULT DESKTOP ICONS
Windows 95 Plus allowed you to change the icons
for such desktop icons as My Computer, the Recycle Bin,
and Network Neighborhood. (You could also do it by
modifying the Registry, but that sort of thing can be
dangerous.) Now Windows 98 allows you to change the above
icons. Here's how: right click on any empty part of the
desktop and choose Properties from the context menu that
drops down. Click the Effects tab. Highlight (by clicking
once) any icon you want to change from the display pane
and then click "Change Icon." You will see
various choices for alternative icons, which you pick by
clicking it and then clicking on "Apply". If
none of these icons please you, you can click the
"Browse" button and search around inside of
just about any file that ends with these file extensions:
.DLL, .EXE, and .ICL.
