STRETCHING THE DISPLAY BACKGROUND

I like to collect colorful and interesting backgrounds for my computer display (I tired of the "Clouds" background that came with Windows a long time ago.) Any bitmap image, that is, a file ending with the extension ".bmp", will work. Of course, not every bitmap image will necessarily be just the right size to fill the entire display. With Windows 95, even when Internet Explorer 4.0 is installed, you have the options only to center the image or to tile it. But with Windows 98 there is a new option called "stretch" which will cause a centered image that is not big enough to fill the entire screen to be stretched so that it will. Here's how to do it: right-click on any empty part of the display background as you are viewing the Desktop, then click on Properties on the context menu that rolls out. Click on the Background tab. Click on the downward pointing triangle in the list box below the word "Display:". Then click on the option for Stretch. Finally, click on "OK".
