REMOVING AN ACTIVE DESKTOP ITEM IN WINDOWS ME
When you add a Desktop Item to your Active
Desktop, you will see the name of it added to the bottom
half of the context menu that scrolls out from the Active
Desktop menu. Next to the name is a check mark if it is
being displayed. Do you wish to remove it temporarily
from the display? Then just click on that name to remove
the check mark and it will be removed from the display
also. The same thing can be accomplished in another way
if you have not Locked your Desktop Icons: when you hold
the mouse cursor over the topmost edge of the picture, a
title bar scrolls up, with one of the three icons on its
rightmost edge being a small X. This is the Close Item
icon; clicking it closes the item, which removes it from
being displayed. (However, the item remains on the item
list in the bottom half of the Active Desktop context
menu.)

How about if you want to permanently delete the Desktop
Item, rather than just deactivating its display? You do
that in the following way: right click on the Desktop,
select Properties from the context menu, click on the Web
tab in the Display Properties dialog box, select the item
you want to delete and then click the Delete button and
then select Yes when you are asked to confirm.
