CUSTOM USER PROFILES
Do you have more than one person in your household making
use of the same computer? One handy feature of Windows 9x
in this case is the facility for having custom user
profiles. Each person using the computer logs in to the
computer by entering his User name and a password. Each
user can arrange his desktop the way he/she desires, with
background, icons, screen savers, and Start Menu contents
suited to his/her own preferences. And the programs
installed by each user are accessible only to that user.

To set up custom profiles for each user, do the
following: Click on the Start button, then Settings,
Control Panel, and then the icon for Passwords. On the
User Profiles tab, click on "Users can customize
their preferences and desktop settings. Windows switches
to your personal settings whenever you log in." Also
make sure the two boxes in the User Profile Settings area
have check marks in them. Now each user must log in, by
restarting Windows, entering name and password (14
characters or less), and arrange the desktop, etc.as
desired. Once the password is entered the first time, it
can be changed by that user in the Passwords area of the
Control Panel.
