In the 2009-10 season Lee Poulis returns to the ensemble at Theater Bonn in the roles of Wolfram in Tannhäuser, Father in Hänsel und Gretel, Belcore in L'elisir d'amore, Marcello in La Boheme, and Pantalon in Prokofiev's The Love for Three Oranges. Mr. Poulis' 2008-09 season included the role of Valentin in Faust with Theater Chemnitz, appearing as soloist in Hanns Eissler's Deutsche Sinfonie with Beethovenfest Bonn in Germany, and several principal roles as a member of the ensemble at Theater Bonn, including Germont in La traviata, Yeletsky in Pique Dame, Renato in Un ballo in maschera, Michonnet in Adriana Lecouvreur, and Papageno in Die Zauberflöte.

Mr. Poulis' frequent appearances at Washington National Opera have included Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Dandini in La Cenerentola, Senator Raitcliffe in the world premiere of Scott Wheeler's Democracy, Masetto in Don Giovanni, and De Siriex in Fedora for the company's Trilogy Gala. As a member of San Francisco Opera's prestigious Merola Program he performed the roles of Charlot in Ibert's Angelique and Mr. Gobineau in The Medium, and added the roles of Count in Le nozze di Figaro and Germont in La traviata to his repertoire while at Los Angeles Opera. Mr. Poulis also performed four roles in Shostakovich's The Nose at the Bard Summerscape Festival, and Marcello in La bohème in a concert performance with the Newton Symphony Orchestra.

Other international credits on the operatic stage include the roles of Marcello in La bohème with Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Starveling in A Midsummer Night's Dream with Teatro Real in Madrid, Masetto in Don Giovanni with both Opera Bilbao and Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, and sang as Wanderer in a scene with Erda from Siegfried for La Fura dels Baus at the British Museum.

Mr. Poulis' concert repertoire engagements include Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with the American Youth Symphony, Mozart's Requiem with the Masterworks Chorale, Brahms's Ein deutsches Requiem with the Waltham Philharmonic and the Masterworks Chorale, Haydn's Missa in Angustiis with the Reston Chorale, Lord Nelson Mass at the Beijing Concert Hall, Fauré's Requiem with both the Atlantic Union College and the Gemini Youth Orchestra, and Handel's Messiah with Commonwealth Opera. Mr. Poulis has also appeared in recital recently with the Marilyn Horne Foundation at Carnegie's Weill Hall as well as in Washington D.C. with the Washington Vocal Arts Society.

Lee Poulis is the first prize winner in the 2008 Liederkranz Foundation Vocal Competition, top prize winner in the 2008 Francisco Viñas International Voice Competition, and first prize winner in the 2007 Chester Ludgin International Verdi Baritone Competition, as well as an Encouragement Award recipient in the 2008 George London Foundation Awards competition. In addition to San Francisco Opera's Merola Program, he is an alumnus of Washington National Opera's Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program, as well as Music Academy of the West. Mr. Poulis is a graduate of Harvard University.

Le jeune et talentueux baryton américain Lee Poulis, né à New York en 1980, s'est fait remarquer en remportant en 2008 le 1^er Prix du Concours Liederkranz Foundation puis le 1^er Prix du Concours International de Chant Francisco Viñas. Cette année, Lee a aussi obtenu un Prix d’Encouragement de la Fondation George London de New York et a aussi obtenu le 1^er Prix du Concours International de Chant Chester Ludgin destiné à récompenser le meilleur jeune baryton Verdi.

Diplômé de l’Université d’Harvard en Sciences Politiques et de la Music Academy of the West, Lee Poulis a été remarqué et encouragé par Placido Domingo. Il s'est perfectionné de 2000 à 2004 au Washington National Opera dans le cadre du Domingo- Cafritz Young Artist Program et a parallèlement suivi l'enseignement du prestigieux Merola Program du San Francisco Opera en 2003.

De 2000 à 2005, Lee Poulis s’est produit de nombreuses fois au Washington National Opera dans des rôles aussi divers que Papageno dans Die Zauberflöte, Dandini dans La Cenerentola, Masetto dans Don Giovanni, et De Siriex dans Fedora lors du Gala "Trilogy" de cette maison.

Le baryton a par ailleurs créé, à Washington, le rôle de Senator Raitcliffe dans la première mondiale de Democracy du composteur Scott Wheeler.

Dans le cadre du prestigieux programme Merola de l’Opéra de San Francisco, il a interprété en 2003 les rôles de Charlot dans Angélique d’Ibert et de Mr. Gobineau dans The Medium, du Comte Almaviva dans Le Nozze di Figaro et de Germont dans La Traviata.

Lee Poulis s'est aussi produit à l’Opéra de Los Angeles et au Bard Summerscape Festival dans 4 rôles du Nez de Chostakovitch et a aussi abordé le rôle de Marcello dans La Bohème lors d’un concert avec le Newton Symphony Orchestra.

En concert, le baryton a notamment interprété la IX^ème Symphonie de Beethoven avec l'American Youth Symphony, le Requiem de Mozart, Ein deutsches Requiem de Brahms avec le Waltham Philharmonic, la Missa in Angustiis et la Messe Lord Nelson de Haydn au Concert Hall de Pékin, le Requiem de Fauré et The Messiah de Haendel avec le Commonwealth Opera.

Depuis 2005, Lee s'est fait aussi rapidement fait connaître en Amérique du Sud et en Europe.

En Europe, Lee Poulis est apparu comme Marcello dans La Bohème avec la Deutsche Oper am Rhein à Düsseldorf et Duisburg (mars 2007), comme Starveling dans A Midsummer Night's Dream avec le Teatro Real de Madrid (2006), comme Masetto dans Don Giovanni avec l’Opéra de Bilbao (2005) et au Staatsoper Unter den Linden de Berlin (2005).

Au British Museum de Londres, il a interprété lors d'un gala la scène Wotan / Erda de Siegfried dans une mise en scène de La Fura dels Baus.

En concert, il a été le soliste de la Deutsche Sinfonie de Hans Eisler lors de la Beethovenfest à Bonn (08/2008).

Lee a fait ses débuts remarqués, en juin 2008, au Théâtre Municipal de Santiago, dans le rôle de Renato dans Un Ballo in Maschera en remplaçant au pied levé un collègue souffrant. A cette occasion, les critiques tant locaux qu'internationaux présents ont loué sa prestation.

Lee Poulis a également donné récemment un récital avec la Marilyn Horne Foundation au Carnegie's Weill Hall de New York ainsi qu’à Washington D.C. avec la Washington Vocal Arts Society.

Depuis septembre 2008, Lee Poulis est artiste en résidence de l’ensemble du Théâtre de Bonn. Pour l'Opéra de Bonn, il aborde au cours de la saison 2008 / 2009 : Germont dans La Traviata, Yeletsky de La Dame de Pique, Renato dans Un Ballo in Maschera, Michonnet dans Adriana Lecouvreur, Papageno dans Die Zauberflöte et Astolfo dans Orlando Furioso…

Lee Poulis ouvrira la saison 2009 / 2010 de l'Opéra de Bonn avec Wolfram de Tannhäuser de Wagner dans une nouvelle production, puis y sera Belcore dans L'Elisir d'Amore, Marcello dans La Boheme…
