Connemara Region, County Galway

Connemara is the Gaeltacht region, northwest of Galway city. Stone walls trail along the landscape, interspersed with cottages and modern houses, and stacks of peat that are harvested from the surrounding turf to heat the homes. The peat mingles with the water, which is a dazzlingly clear black that sparkles with reflections of the sky and mountains. You can see and hear for miles. Brilliant strands of light beams shoot through the clouds, shifting easily with the wind and striking the mountains and lakes with shafts of light. It is peaceful country. It lies itself quietly out before you. (Click on photo for larger view.)
