Novel Trailers
(aka promotional videos/slideshows)
What is a novel trailer?
I was trying to think of some different ways to promote my novels, and I
thought about how movies have trailers (basically extended commercials outlining
the film's plot) to entice the audience. I started thinking about how
this might work with a book. I've been using a program called AL
Screensaver and Slideshow Builder
(http://www.al-soft.com/) for other projects, and figured I could attempt a trailer
for my novels using this software. Now that I had some idea how to
make the trailer, I needed to find some images to use that would go
along with my book well. I was fortunate to find some sites with
royalty-free photographs, and there was quite a selection to choose from!
I used some of the photographs to go along with the snippets/small
excerpts from my book, and also created a few of my own images, and began
to piece it all together. When I had completed, I started to get curious
about if anyone else had the idea for a trailers for books other than me,
so I did a search on the web and found a few author sites with trailers.
Theirs weren't set up quite like mine (frankly, theirs looked more
like a movie trailer would look, but I did what I could with the materials
I had to work with), but it was neat to find out that I wasn't the only one
to have this idea.
I personally feel that trailers are meant to be shared, so if you would like
use my trailer(s) on your website, feel free to do so, but PLEASE upload
the file to your own server, so you're not stealing my bandwidth. I
would also appreciate a link back to my site, but it's not necessary.
