I grew up in church. Almost literally. My family was very active in church and
we were there every time the doors were open. But in spite of going to church
and being generally a good kid, I felt that there was something missing. “Doing
church” somehow wasn’t enough and didn’t feel real to me. Then,
I had a life-changing experience. God filled that void in my life. He became real to me. As real as you are. And more.
Because I feel God’s presence with me daily. He is the one
constant in a life full of changes and world full of upheaval. I rely on the
knowledge that God will never leave me, that He is working in my circumstances, that He loves me unconditionally. And I am assured that even when I leave this life, I will be with God in heaven. In an uncertain world, it is very comforting to me to be absolutely certain of something.

What's with all the turtles?
I love turtles! Turtles represent a big turning point in my faith.
When I was studying biology at Clemson, everything I learned was based on evolution. I was really struggling with meshing
what I was learning in my classes with my belief that God had purposefully created everything (c.f. Col 1:16). Right in the middle of this crisis of belief, my vertebrate biology professor introduced turtles. And he introduced
them as an "evolutionary anomaly" because there was no record of any precursor to the turtle shell - it was as if turtles
just appeared in the fossil record. God had answered my question. As hard as it tries, science cannot explain
everything. Some things you must take on faith. And I did.
