Dunlap Scott was born June 20, 1831. He was the 7th child of James Madison Scott and Rebecca Millican. Dunlap was living in Floyd Co. in 1858. His father and Mother are listed in the l850 census in Madison Co. Dunlap married Theodosia Virginia Wray of Athens, Ga in 1857. They had two children, Theodosia Virginia Scott and Thomas Scott. Dunlap is listed #313 in the Rome Dist. Census 1860.

Dunlap was an attorney. After the war and the death of Theodosia he was elected to the State Legislature from 1868-1874. He married Mary Jones of Mississippi in Floyd Co. on 3/15/1870. They had one child. Mary Jones died 2/15/1871, at the age of 26. Next he married Mary O. Montgomery of Augusta, Ga. in 1873. Dunlap was Solicitor General of the County Court (Floyd) from 1873-1874. He died 10/30/1874 and is buried in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Rome.

His daughter Theodosia Virginia Scott married Richard A. Denny. Their daughter Mary Alden Denny married Dr. James Walker Curry and they had two sons, James Walker Curry Jr., David Denny Curry. I am the daughter and only child of James Walker Jr. and there is an only son of David Denny living. He is David Denny Curry, Jr.

War Service Records:

Scott, Dunlap S. - 2d Lt. May 14, 1861. Wounded in heel at First Manassas, Va. July 21, 1861. Elected 1 Lt. Jan. 21, 1862 to fill vacancy caused by Lt. Hull's resignation. Elected Captain Feb. 10, 1862. Returned to Rome Feb. 15, 1862, recruiting; in Rome Oct. 29, 1862 to secure supplies for the 8th Reg. On detached duty as Div. Prov. Marshall in 1864-1865. Surrendered, Appomattox, Va. Apr. 9, 1865.

[Captain Dunlap Scott is the ancestor of Dee Curry Hayes, Denny Curry, David Curry,  David C. Curry, and Tyler Scott Curry, through Theodosia Virginia his first wife. Also ancestor of Ben Russell, through Dunlap's second wife Mary Jones.]
