Cartridge Box Plate found by John Prokopis (father of Gus Prokipis ) at Harrison's Landing, Va. It was probably a Union soldier's battlefield pickup or "souvenir" and dropped there during the Union Army's retreat from the 7 Days Battles, July 1862, as the 8th Georgia did not actually fight at Harrison's Landing. Very few specimens are known to exist. It appears to have been struck by a projectile. |

This image shows the identical "OLI" cartridge box plate. All 3 known specimens (at time of book's publication) are cartridge box plates, but it is likely that a corresponding belt buckle existed. Size about 2 x 3 inches, weight about 2 oz., die-stamped and made of brass and solder. |
