"Just Returned From War"

leaf line

"Mr. James Burrows, who left this county in May, 1861, as a private in the Pulaski Volunteers, Eighth Georgia Regiment, returned last night after an absence of a little more than twenty-one years. He was wounded in the Seven Days' Fight around Richmond in 1862, on the same day with Colonel Lucius M. Lamar, the Colonel of the Regiment.

In August, 1864, Mr. Burrows was taken prisoner in one of the battles below Richmond and was taken to Point Lookout, where he remained through the duration of the War. After the war he went to Missouri, Utah and to the Colorado Gold fields. He left from there on the 16th of April [1882] and reached Hawkinsville last night. He is the brother of Mr. John Burrows, Marshall of Hawkinsville."
